Derrick McKenzie website

Jamiroquai drummer Derrick McKenzie has at long last opened the doors to his own website at derrickmckenzie.com.

The site contains news, a great biography, photographs, music and video clips and a guestbook.

"OK so lately I have been working on the new Jamiroquai album since January this year we managed to get 25 new tracks written and recorded to a demo stage so far this year, I can assure you that out of that lot we will only use 3 or even 5 out of them.  Fortunately for Jay he has the fantastic task of wondering which tracks are gonna cut the mustard or just be a complete disaster ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!"

Check out the rest of his site at derrickmckenzie.com, leave a message and get in contact with this superb drummer.

Television channel BBC Two has just started broadcasting a new series called "Charley Boorman: Ireland to Sydney...", where presenter Charley Boorman travels on a motorbike across three continents, 25 countries and over 20,000 miles from Ireland to Australia.

Well, the interesting thing is that Jamiroquai perform the theme tune to this new show.  If you're in the UK you can watch the show on BBC iPlayer, and I'm sure someone will be kind enough to rip the audio of the theme tune, upload it and post a link as a news comment sooner or later.....

Jamiroquai keyboard player Matt Johnson, who has been patron of the Youth Cancer Trust for many years has put put his name to the (Dorset Daily) Echo newspaper (UK) backed Youth Cancer Trust Appeal 2008.  From a news article at the Echo newspaper website...

"We are really grateful to Matt for endorsing the YCT and putting his name to the appeal"said Georgina Hillman, of the Youth Cancer Trust.

We know he's really busy and can't be here all the time, but he always takes a great interest in what we're doing. The youngsters love the fact we have a pop star as a patron!"

More information about the Youth Cancer Trust can be found at www.yct.org.uk

This summer on MTV (UK) they are looking into the archives to define the greatest music video ever made.  Experts from MTV TWO, MTV BASE and VH1 have already set out their opinions on the Top 100 videos in their respective genres and Jamiroquai's Virtual Insanity has been nominated in VH1's Greatest Video Ever Top 10.

The combined MTV TWO, BASE and VH1 Top 10s have now been given to the public to vote at www.mtv.co.uk/music.  It will also be possible to vote in-store at HMV stores nationwide.

Voting closes at midnight on 14 September and the ultimate Top 10 Greatest Videos Ever will be revealed on Sunday 21 September at 7pm across MTV (UK) channels.

On Saturday night Jamiroquai performed the last of their current set of tour dates - at the Tobit Arena in Ahaus, Germany.  The band were on stage later than expected after a mix up with aeroplanes flying to Germany (another band took Jamiroquai's flight and the plane Jamiroquai were on wasn't heading to Ahaus!!).  The setlist was as follows:

  • The Kids, High Times, Space Cowboy, Little L, Travelling Without Moving, Black Capricorn Day, Cosmic Girl, Seven Days In Sunny June, Alright, Love Foolosophy, Deeper Underground

In addition to Jamiroquai performing, the concert also had The Brand New Heavies and Nude Continuum on the same stage, so I'm sure it was a really great night.  More information/photos/videos will no doubt be posted online at Jamirotalk.net, but feel free to post any links as comments to this news item.

Don't also forget to check sites such as Flickr and YouTube as photos and videos from the gig are starting to get posted online.

Now that the tour is over there's no time for rest for the band as Derrick, Rob and Paul are performing at a drum/guitar masterclass in England on Sunday afternoon.
